Urban Birdie was born out of a very real parenting struggle. As a mother of a spirited daughter and a mischievous little boy with sensitive skin, I found myself constantly struggling with Indian occasion wear. My kids would fuss endlessly.Heavy embellishments, pokey seams, itchy tags, synthetic linings and uncomfortable traditional fits made most outfits unbearable. We ended up wasting a lot of money on clothes that were never worn. Hence, I began designing their occasion wear myself but not in the usual traditional designs but in modern, western silhouettes using natural,breathable fabrics like 100% cotton. I chose heritage block prints and soft finishes that kept them comfortable, happy and stylish whilst taking pride in our Indian Heritage.These pieces didn’t just make my children feel good, they were appreciated by friends and family too. That’s when the seed for Urban Birdie was planted.

At Urban Birdie, we re-imagine Indian occasion and casual wear for kids, fusing India’s textile heritage with modern, fuss-free silhouettes. Every piece is made using natural breathable fabrics like pure cotton, handblocked prints and handloom weaves like Ikat, stitched with gentle, soft seams and dyed using chemical-free, child-safe colours. We avoid all embellishments and scratchy details and keeping comfort first, always.
In a world dominated by fast fashion and machine-made garments, Urban Birdie stays rooted in tradition working directly with Indian artisans and weavers to ensure their skills and stories continue to thrive. Our goal is to make meaningful clothes that are as joyful to wear as they are to make and always gentle on your child’s skin.
